Mercedes-Benz has this week launched a special edition of its AMG SL 63 dressed in a livery inspired by Formula 1, the brand new Mercedes-AMG SL 63.

Based on the range-topping 63, the roadster sports car is now available in the Motorsport Collectors Edition with a number of visual tweaks to mimic the machine that shone in the 2021 F1 season, rather than last year’s W13.

Like the W12 driven at the time by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, this car’s metallic paint is graded from High Tech Silver Metallic to Obsidian Black Metallic, combined with the familiar Petronas Green. for a contrast effect.

As if that were not enough, in the rear half of the car it has numerous three-pointed stars that are reminiscent of the racing car and that undoubtedly make it unbeatable.

Its chassis is based on the aluminum MSA platform, a variant of the rear-wheel drive MRA 2 that arrives loaded with 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, active rear-axle steering, as well as the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension adjustment system, with electronically adjustable damping and different driving modes, including a specific one for circuits.

In addition, AMG has also taken care of the aerodynamic part with active elements such as a rear spoiler that is electronically regulated and also a piece of carbon fiber located on the underbody of the SL that allows a Venturi effect to be generated.

As standard, those from Affalterbach install the AMG aerodynamics package with larger wings on both the front and rear aprons. The kit adapted to the SL also includes a more robust diffuser and changes to the underbody to improve airflow. Numerous black accents have been added courtesy of the AMG Night Package and AMG II Night Package, including a black chrome grille, dark brake calipers and black badging.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors features 21-inch wheels in a 10-twin-spoke design and features a black electrically operated fabric roof. The AMG Performance seats can be in black Nappa leather with red or yellow stitching, both with embossed AMG emblem on the headrests. Carbon fiber trim, Burmester sound system, Head-Up Display and AMG Track Pace telemetry system complete the equipment.

Mercedes Benz will only build 100 of these roadsters and each one will be delivered with an inner cover made of a synthetic fabric that does not tear. It also features an antistatic woven flannel lining on the inside to protect the vehicle from scratches and dust.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition is a true spectacle with its famous 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine used in the GT, with 476 hp and SL 63 with 585 hp. Both are associated with a new 9-speed AMG Speedshift MCT 9G automatic transmission and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system to reach 0 to 100 in 3.6 seconds respectively, while its top speed reaches 315 km/h.

The block also offers a whopping 800 Nm of maximum torque, so the SL 63 isn’t lacking in muscle by any means.

All SL Motorsport Collectors Edition will include a special AMG cover. The price was not included in the Mercedes announcement, but it is expected to be well above the regular SL 63’s base price of $179,000.
