Proud to sow the future
It is again under the theme “Proud to sow the future” that concluded the 21st edition of Expo-Champs last Thursday near Saint-Liboire. The annual event organized by the Societe d’Agriculture de Saint-Hyacinthe, a veritable unmissable event in the agricultural community, welcomed a total of 17,720 visitors.
Preparing 50 hectares of land for Expo-Champs is colossal work on the part of a logistics team in place since August 5. For weeks, in addition to the suppliers on site, there were ten of them preparing the exhibitors’ sites. Teamwork necessary for the success of the event. Although Mother Nature was not on our side on Wednesday, the organization is more than satisfied with the quality of the event and the traffic, ranking in the top 3 of the years with the highest attendance. Among these, note the presence of some 400 students from various educational institutions in Quebec.
INNOVATIONS AND PREVENTION
Many visitors have passed through the SSS prevention zone presented by Desjardins, located at field P-13. Students and farmers were able to familiarize themselves with products promoting safety in the workplace, such as those from Hazmasters inc. and PrevTech Innovations inc. The main attraction of this area: the SécuriGrain trailer of the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association where, using a mannequin, it was shown that it only takes 8 seconds to be buried under the grain.
For the first time at Expo-Champs, visitors could see at work during commented demonstrations the brand new articulated tractor 520Dt, from the Manitoban company Versatile. This was one of the thirty novelties and innovations unveiled by more than 320 exhibitors on site.
Several hundred people attended each of the commented demonstrations (presented by Le Bulletin des producteurs ), whether on the EAST or WEST side, to see the tractors and disc harrows in action.
– SCALE GUESTS AND EVENTS Expo-Champs was also the host of two major events, the unveiling of the results of La Tournee des grandes cultures 2019 where a hundred interested parties were present, as well as a press conference by The Union of agricultural producers. During this event, the federation of the UPA of Monteregie announced the obtaining of financial aid totaling $320,000 which will be invested in two projects namely The agricultural environment for the protection of water and soil resources in Monteregie and the project Protection of agricultural riparian strips in the Monteregie.
Finally, the visitors were also able to take advantage of the presence of the strong man Jean-François Caron in order to challenge him to the tour de force. A single participant managed to stick to the strong man who dazzled visitors by lifting a 250lb dumbbell with one arm and a van with 6 passengers on board.
The Expo-Champs team would like to thank their many partners, sponsors and exhibitors who once again greatly contributed to the success of this 21st edition. Our next meeting will be January 14, 15 and 16 at the Agricultural Show on the side of Espace Saint-Hyacinthe. For more information, visit www.salondelagriculture.com.
